A week-end with father Mesidor
Yves Alfred, businessman, entrepreneur, salesian alumni, has initiated the idea of small delegations, composed of 5 or 6 members to take turn, to spend a week-end with father Jacques Mesidor in Cap-Haitien, Haiti.
The first delegation composed of Yves Alfred, Roland Alexis, Legoaze Laroche, Edouard Desvarieux landed in the city Santiago, Dominican Republic, on the afternoon of October 27, 2006. In the evening father Pascale Hector drove us from the Haitian Dominican borders to the Salesian House in Fort-Liberte where we spent the night. We witnessed
the great job father Hector assisted by father Lesly Jean Hostin are doing in Fort-Liberte.
In the morning of Saturday October 28, father Hector drove us to Cap Haitien in Fondation Vincent where we spent all day with father Jacques Mesidor. On his wheelchair, he was still in charge, in good spirit and strong. Every body wants to hear his wise and sound advise. On a short notice, at the request of father Mesidor we were able to meet with the executif members of the Haitian salesian association of Cap Haitien. We exchanged ideas and experiences. Then we were joined by father Gerald Jeannot for supper. The executif members of the Cap Haitien association have a lot of insight on where they want to take their association. We hope to maintain contact and encourage them in their struggle.
At about 8:30 PM, we left Fondation Vincent to spent the night in the beautiful and large house of Mrs Zita Charles, the sister of the salesian provincial, father Jacques Charles. She gave the four of us an exceptional reception. We felt very comfortable and at home. We left her house at 7:00 AM, ate breakfast with father Mesidor who loaded our luggages with souvenirs. We know he loves us all.
We left Cap Haitien at 10:00 AM in direction of Fort-Liberte to say good bye. We were driven to the borders which we crossed at about 2:30 PM. There we took a taxi to the Santiago airport. We left Santiago at 8:30 PM and arrived at JFK at 11:00 PM. The visit was short, great and very fulfilling.

Engineer Ernesto Etienne New position
We are always proud of the success of one of our progressive salesien alumni.
In the Salesien Institution, not all professions or trades are taught but the alumni are instilled with some enviable and distinguishing traits. There are respect, reliability, honesty, discipline. The most gifted among us displayed ostentatiously these characteristics to the benefit of the institution and its students.
Engineer Ernesto Etienne is one of the alumni we have in mind. He has gravitated very well around the best technical companies in the United States. He has shared with us
his decision to join the FAA administration, in the following massage:
“I wanted to take a moment to let you know that I am leaving my position as Senior Electrical Engineer at L-3Communications/Engility Corporation. I will be starting a new position at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with the Terminal Weather Group, Terminal Service Unit (AJT-10) next month. “

Les depenses de la renovation du local de l'Asssociation
Wilner Duvivier comme secrétaire et Edouard Desvarieux comme président ont signé le 27 Juillet 2006, un prêt hypothécaire à taux variable de $200000.00 s'échelonnant sur une période de 20 ans. Durant les 5 premières années le taux est de 9.875%.
Cette somme de $200000.00 est réservée entièrement pour le payement des dettes et pour la rénovation du local de l'Association. Nous avons déjà versé le premier payement de $2735.00 le 1er Septembre 2006.
Les travaux de rénovation ont commencé le 14 Août 2006 avec un contrat d'achèvement de trois mois. Nous aurons à nous acquitter du montant hypothécaire mensuel même si les travaux ne seraient pas achevés pour le temps prévu. Dans ce cas, aussi vite que possible, nous devons nous procurer de l'argent pour payer la dette. Il ne sera pas facile.
Les sources de revenue habituelles ne suffiront pas. Il nous faudra augmenter nos ressources économiques et prendre des mesures appropriées. Nous avons entrepris une tache lourde et difficile.

Ainsi on peut voir comment il sera difficile de gérer les affaires. Tous les appartements doivent toujours être loués et payés à l'heure. Ce qui n'est pas possible. Pour éviter un défaut croisé, il sera nécessaire d'avoir une réserve en banque équivalente à dix fois le total des dépenses mensuelles. Ce que nous allons essayer de mettre en application.
Notons que certaines dépenses importantes sont exclues. Par exemple: Timbres, enveloppes, avocat, donation charitable nécessaire pour maintenir notre position morale, ou encore pour rechercher le «Tax exempt Status» auprès du gouvernement fédéral. Pendant ce temps, une augmentation du revenu est nécessaire. Nous sommes en train de contempler deux sources différentes :
La première est la cotisation annuelle des membres. Le trésorier Roland Alexis aidé du secrétaire Wilner Duvivier devra lancer une campagne auprès des membres pour qu'ils viennent apporter leur aide, au moins pour les deux prochaines années.
La deuxième est de faire une application pour le «Tax exempt Status» auprès du gouvernement fédéral.
Si cette application est agréée les membres seront motivés à donner parce qu'ils recevront en retour une compensation fiscale.
